Awards

The Nigerian Institution of Marine Engineers and Naval Architects is committed to rewarding excellence and hard work. Excellence and Hard work mean so many things to us;

  1. Giving your best in your sphere of influence
  2. Contributing your best for NIMENA and for public good
  3. Demonstrating exemplary leadership qualities
  4. Demonstrating excellent performance

We are currently focused on the following awards:

  1. Academic Excellence awards for Marine Engineering and Naval Architecture students based on the standards set by the National Universities Commission (NUC) and the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE)
  2. Academic Excellence award for Lecturers in the field of Marine Engineering and or Naval Architecture with focus on Research and Development (R&D)
  3. Distinguished Leadership Awards for members and non-members
  4. Indigenous Ship Managers Award based on the criteria set and approved by the Council of NIMENA (CONIM)
  5. Fellowship and Honorary Fellowship Awards for members and non-members based on approved criteria.

 

Our awards are merit-based and are meant to encourage members and the public to do more for the overall good of society.

Awards and all related matters are regulated by the Annual Dinner/Awards Committee.

The Council of NIMENA (CONIM), on 27 July 2019, approved the initiative of the National Chairman to institute the award scheme for members and students in Higher Institutions of Learning.

The Awards are:

  • Academic Excellence Awards
  1. Category A: For student based on the highest CGPA calculated in accordance with the standard set by the National Universities Commission
  2. Category B: For Students based on the highest CGPA calculated in accordance with the standard set by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE)
  • Distinguished Leadership Award for members

The awards carry a total cash value of the sum of Three Hundred Thousand Naira (NGN 300,000:00). This is in addition to a Plaque and Award Certificates given to winners.

The awards are sponsored by the National Chairman, Engr. Henry Unuigbe

The first edition of the awards commenced at the 8th Annual Conference held on 14 November 2019. See News tab for details of the award recipients.

The coming year will witness the roll out of more awards to those deserving of them.

Sponsorship of any of the awards is open to members and non-members including corporate bodies and MDAs interested in the award recognition scheme of NIMENA.
